  • Ohio 410 Sprint Car State Championship Points - Post Memorial Day Weekend

Last year at the end of the year I came up with a system to make an unbiased "Ohio State Champion" among the 410 Winged Sprint Cars with Cole Duncan narrowly edging out Tim Shaffer for the championship last year. The points system rewards consistent finishes in races within the state of Ohio, regardless of sanctioning body, track, car counts, etc. and provides a way to gauge how much and how well individual drivers are doing. The points system is simple, 10 points for first, 9 for second, down to 1 point for 10th. Only the top 10 cars in each event receive points, which allows for outsiders (i.e. traveling series members) to also achieve success with in the system but also not overpower the system.

Anyways, I figured after the first huge racing weekend of the year in Memorial Day weekend would be a logical point to release the first preliminary points standings. Keep in mind all of these are simply added up by myself and it is possible that some mistakes may have been made. At the end of the season I will take the top 15-20 drivers and recalculate based on the entire season to ensure that the top of the charts is accurate. There are 96 drivers who have finished in the top 10 at least once throughout the year.

I'd love for this to actually have a legitimate point fund some day but I do not have that kind of money to throw around. Gotta keep the fiance and future family fed and sheltered first!

Enjoy and would love to hear your input on the information provided below!

Thanks for your hard work in compiling all this info. I’m sure it is very time consuming. It’s very interesting to study these stats and to see how all the drivers are doing in events run in-state.

Good work, GT. We say that a lot at these days on Pit Gate. I expected Shaffer to be the leader, but he has fewer top 10's and probably fewer total races than the drivers above him. The fact that Mintz & Brubaker lead the standings indicates that your point system is an accurate measure of a driver's success at Ohio tracks. As the season progresses, this deal should become increasingly interesting. I intend to stay tuned.

GT everything looks logical & well thought out. I know what you mean about keeping the family fed and sheltered. One of the silly pipe dreams that I have had has been to be a promoter at some point but it's risky when you consider other people depend on you.

Keep the dream though, maybe some day you can put something together. One thing that a buddy and I have considered is doing a podcast at some point once the little ones grow up a little more and don't require as much attention. Considering the cost, it potentially could be used as a platform if you get enough followers.
