    Weekend Highlights

-The first of two extended weekends in a row kicks off with Expo Speedway’s lone revival each year for the Trumbull County Fair. Featuring big block modifieds and rush sportsman modifieds. The event kicks off at 6 PM with little other information available on the fairs website. It’s one of only two county fairs in Ohio which host a vehicular racing event, so if you’re in the area, want to check another track off of your list, or just simply craving some racing Thursday evening head over and check it out!

-The event garnering the majority of national attention this weekend within the state features the DIRTcar UMP Late Model Summer Hell Tour finale. Both races occur at Oakshade this upcoming Friday and Saturday. The Friday event will pay $5k to win for the Late Models and the Birthday race and hell tour finale will conclude with a $10k to win feature. Brian Shirley and Bobby Pierce are locked in a tight battle for the Hell Tour championship and with a tough field of locals joining the foray the championship should be very interesting. Also of note, McClure, Ohio native and multi time UMP national points champ in the late model Rusty Schlenk sits 5th in Hell Tour points coming back to one of his local tracks.

-Atomic Speedway takes action this Saturday with its third different configuration on the year after the much maligned wall was removed and replaced with a more sensible approach which should hopefully provide a permanent fix to the blunt end issue in turn 3. The track flared our turn 3 with tires in front of the new section a wall to soften any impact made in that section of the track. The wall atop 1 & 2 and sitting directly on the track have been permanently removed. The OVSCA sprints take on the facility with Late Models, Modifieds, and Sport Mods also on the card.

-Fremont has one of their well received all open wheel events this Saturday. Both the AFCS 410 and 305 divisions will be on hand as well as the lone appearance of the BOSS non wing sprints at Fremont. After two rainouts on the original dates the BOSS date was added on late in the season. For fans of sprint cars this is a cant miss event in my opinion as non wing sprints at Fremont always put on an excellent show. Combine that with a $1000 to win 305 event AND winged 410s this oughta be a fantastic event!

    Weekend Plans

-Doing something different Friday muggy and will be going to the Tiffin Drive-In for a duo of horror films with my fiancé and the dogs. Saturday after trying some food to potentially cater our wedding we’re headed to Fremont for the night! Get out and support one of the great events throughout our state this weekend!

You have to check twitter and FB to see what is happening at a lot of tracks this year cause of all the rainouts. Many schedule changes.

Too many to count. I’m pretty much to the point where I’m reviewing results after the fact. Saw the Michael rose Memorial was rescheduled to this week but not that they cut classes.

Wayne County had 18 sprint cars last night. Track was not the usual condition as it was rough but reworked for features. Rain had been all around earlier thru the week but missed the track as everything was very dry, no moisture in parking lot. So the race surface was baked after the super hot weather.

Great race with Danny Mumaw taking the win over Dean Jacobs. TJ Michaels and Trey Jacob put on an excellent run.
Brothers Jamie and Chris Myers and Jordan Harble who are running different circuits rounded out the next 3. Racing was good watching them move up.
It was a good mix of drivers.
Enjoy the new young drivers of Henry Malcuit, Clay Riney.

Now the late models were a different story with only 4 finishing the race out of a full field. Doug Drown got the win over Matt Lux, Brad Malcuit and Ricky Holderbaum.

The grandstands were packed, the weather was great.
As HordRaceWatcher would say the food was very good.

Next week no sprints but having the Modifieds and Mod Lites to fill in that gap.

Reports on Fremont, Mercer, Oakshade and Atomic with the redesigned wall fence system anyone?

Fremont : 20 410 Sprints, 23 305 Sprints, and approximately 30 B.O.S.S. Non wing Sprints. Winners : Cap Henry, John Ivy, Matt Westfall. Racing was average. Track had challenges, which resulted in a late start and a second rework later. New management there is trying to get a handle on track prep, which is new for them. So, it’s a work in progress. That’s about it. I departed after the 410 Main, which was first.

Seeing comments that the sprint drivers liked wcs last night with such as they could run top middle or bottom.
I thought the feature was good except for the reds for Mitch Harble and Henry Malcuit.
