Its already the time of year we start hearing, season championship night or final race of the season. Going into Labor Day weekend, several tracks will be hosting their final events of the 2010 season. Old school thoughts were once school starts, high school football season opens, and the temps drop at night, race fans will shy away from the tracks. With what seems to be more moderate temps lasting longer into the fall and racers and race fans still looking for some action, some tracks stick it out after Labor Day and continue business as usual more and more in recent years. Either way, you better get out to the tracks soon. Last week I seen a sign coming back from Waynesfield that stated, 18 weeks til Christmas.
Speaking of Season Championships and final races of the season, last Friday Limaland Motorsports Park hosted their final race of 2010. Plus, it was the NRA Sprints points final. 28 NRA Sprints were ready for the finale. Both the Limaland and NRA titles were up for grabs.
The heats races were full of action as it seemed guys were making moves and putting their cars into spots they won't even think about if it was early in the season. A lot of clean hard racing. JR Stewart, Butch Schroeder, and Mike Dussel won the heats.
After a tough battle in his heat, Dustin Daggett bounced back to win the B Main. Kyle Sauder took the McDonald's Dash for Cash win.
With Butch Schroeder and JR Stewart gunning for the titles, the 25 lap A Main was pushing out. Tim Allison and Dennis Yoakam paced the field to the green. Allison gets a great start and rides the high line into the lead. Allison holds strong as Sauder, Hall, Schroeder, Dussel, and Stewart work towards the leader. By lap 9, Allison, Sauder, and Hall are nose to tail. They battle nose to tail, side by side, for the lead. As they enter lapped traffic, an excellent battle is on. Lap 11, Shelden Haudenschild and Caleb Helms spin right in front of the leaders. Everyone missed the spinners and a quick yellow was thrown. The battle rages on after the restart. Yoakam is still in the top 5 a battle hard too until lap 16 when he spins just past the flag stand, battling for position. Green, the top 4 are duking it out now. Luke Hall passes Allison a handful of times but, Allison returns the favor seconds later. Sauder makes several attempts too, falling short
every attempt. With less than 5 to go, any of the top 4, maybe 5 could win. Lap 23, Daggett spins after charging up to 7th from 16th. A 2 lap shoot out, not only for the win but for the titles as well. Green, Allison gets an awesome restart and everyone scrambles to make their move. No one has a chance as Allison stays strong and takes the win. Sauder makes a last ditch effort in turn 4, jumps the cushion as Hall, Schroeder, and Dussel pass by, dropping Sauder to 5th at the line. Schroeder just inches past Dussel for 3rd and with Stewart's 6th place finish, they tie for the Limaland points title. The 1st tie breaker, most wins, they are tied in wins too. 2nd tie breaker, most 2nd place finishes, title to JR Stewart as he earned more 2nd place finishes in the 2010 season. Schroeder was happy tho because his 3rd place finish earned him the NRA season title.
Great racing to end the season at Lima on a very racy track. The guys were going all out and wasn't leaving much on the table on this night. Sprint cars on a 1/4 tracks seem to most generally showcase good racing. Its that time of year but, its sad to think no more racing at Limaland til April 2011.
Saturday night Waynesfield Motorsports Park was hosting their regular traditional sprint car show along with a make-up A Main from a July rain out. The field was set for the make-up race as 33 cars made the trip for the regular weekly program.
Not only was there 2 A Mains I was going to get to watch, thanks to Dean Miracle, the entire Waynesfield Motorsports Park staff, and Tim Cole, I was going to get some laps in a traditional sprint car after the show. An excellent field of 33 cars were ready for action.
Not only was I driving, I spent the night in the pits with Tim Cole, getting dirty working on the car. With several fuel issues, the night just got a lot harder. As we thrashed to fix the issues, we got most fixed before the make-up A Main.
Dustin Trost and Todd Keen paces the field for the 25 laps make-up A. As the green flag waves, Keen takes the lead. Lap 1, Jim Dues spins after some contact. Jim is towed pit side. Keen leads on the restart but Mike Brecht is on the move. Lap 3, Brecht takes the lead. As Brecht works the high side and leads, Matt Westfall is on the bottom and reeling Brecht in each lap. Lap 8, Curtis Edney Jr takes a nasty tumble in turn 3, knocking part of the fence over. After a quick clean-up and fence repair, the field is ready to roll. Brecht and Westfall battle on the restart. Lap 11, Westfall slips past for the lead. Brecht hangs tough for a few lap before Westfall motors away, opening up a sizable lead. As Westfall runs away from the pack, Steve Irwin is charging to the front. As Irwin battles to the top 5 and then the top 3, Westfall rides off into the sunset. Westfall takes the win. Irwin, up from 14th, Brecht, Luke Hall, and Trost round out the top 5.
After firing off the 5 car for the 5th and final time, we got all the leaks fixed and are ready to roll for the heat races. With 2 make-up A mains and the 4 division regular show, the track was slicking up as the sprint car heats pushed off. With 33 cars, 4 heats were ran. Some great racing in the heats seen cars charge from the last row for transfer spots and several last lap battles for the final transfer position. Kevin Thomas JR, Joe Bares, Chad Wilson, and Matt Westfall won heat races. Tim, well he tagged the tail of the heat after having all kind of fuel issue and with never being to Waynesfield, not getting hot laps, and only the 3rd time ever in a sprint car, playing it safe and getting laps was a great idea.
In a very eventful B Main that seen all kind of passing, Mike Brecht takes the win. Mark Hery and Jim Dues transfer from deep in the pack. Hery from 7th and Dues, after thrashing from his heat race right up to push off time for the B, from 14th. Dues team was extremely happy as they should be after working up to the second the cars were pushed into the line-up chute.
Matt Westfall and Chad Wilson paced the field for the 25 lap A Main. With Westfall the dominator at The Field this season, everyone could pretty well guess what might happen in this one. As the green waves, Westfall's 410 out powers Wilson's 305 as he shots to the lead. Westfall is on a mission to sweep the night and opens up a big lead quickly. Luke Hall, Josh Moffatt, and Steve Irwin join the battle upfront but several car lengths behind Westfall. Lap 11, Tom Rhoades spins causing a yellow. As the field slows for the yellow, Irwin runs over an infield tire to avoid the slowing cars that he must not of seen and flips. Restart, Westfall starts right back to where he left off, on the hammer and in the lead on the extreme low side. Moffatt and Hall try to mount a charge. Not tonight, Westfall is hooked-up and stinks up the show. Westfall cruises to sweep the night and takes win number 2. Moffatt, Hall, Mike Dunlap, Mike Galadja, up from 13th, round out the top 5.
As the support divisions finished up, it was time for me and Erik to suit up for our 5 minutes of fame. Once the dust settled, I was suited-up, strapped in, and ready to roll. Surprising, well not really to me, as I got pushed on to the track with the 4 wheeler, I was ready to roll and really didn't have any butterflies or nerves a bothering me. After last minutes instructions and a smack on the head, not to junk his stuff, Tim sent the push truck to the back bumper. As the car fires, I am pumped up. My main problem the first few laps, I was having trouble getting my footing proper on the brake pedal, actually thought one time the brakes were going out. I finally got my footing right and was off and on the throttle more and more. If you were there, a little too hard on and off, not smooth at all. I either mashed it or was off of it, not much in between, which I should of done a better job of doing. Hey, I was having the time of my life though in a non wing car, mashing the gas, feeling the car wanting to point to the infield and having to steer and throttle out of it. In turns 3 and 4, I was getting it down pretty decent, 1 and 2, I seemed to struggle with a bit more. Was I caring, hell no, I was having a blast! I knew I wasn't going to set the track record or get someone kicked out of a ride because I was the next Dave Darland. I did what I wanted to do, had a drive that may never happen again in my life, and it was a drive of a lifetime. By the way, for those of you wondering, non wing rocks! I mean I would cut my left, well you know what off to race winged or non wing sprint cars and I am no expert sprint car driver but, I have had excellent enough friends now to let me practice some laps in both, non wing kicks ass! A huge shout out to Tim Cole, Dean Miracle, Skinny Kenny, Jamie, Gerry, yeah I heard you announcing my laps by the way, I will get even, and the entire staff at Waynesfield Motorsports Park for another dream come true. If I died on the way home, I would have died knowing I got to live out one my dreams, most people in life can't say that, I can! I can't thank you people enough! Was I excited? Just ask Tim, Erik, or the Wilson's, I was shaking after, not from nerves or from being scared, it was from pure adrenaline rushing through my veins. I didn't even know I was shaking I was so pumped up. Plus, a shout out to Kirkendall racing still from a few years ago when they turned my first life long dream into a reality. I have got to life out 2 life long dreams, I've always wanted to race a sprint car, still do, if nothing else at least I have drove a handful of laps in both winged and non wing now. Who knows, maybe someday my dream of racing sprint cars will come true, I know one thing, after taking some laps last Saturday, its going to be hard as hell to just go back and watch non wing sprints, knowing how awesome it was to drive a few laps and wanting to be behind the wheel all that much more now. Erik, well he did good too and it was awesome seeing him so jittery before he went out turn into pure enjoyment after he realized he would be just fine.

Waynesfield Raceway Park returns to action this Saturday night September 4th with a great show featuring the Lee's Hydraulics Non Wing Sprints, Post Agri-Service UMP Modifieds, Miracle Motorsports Tuff Trucks, and JR and Sons Service Center Compacts. The UMP Modifieds will be getting their last tune-up before the Bear Wieck Memorial and Big Dawg 100 on September 17th and 18th, respectively. The Compact A Main will pay $300 to win and $50 to start, thanks to Jerry Butler of JR and Sons Service Center and Curt Frazier of Frazier's Garage.

More importantly, Waynesfield Raceway Park will once again be “Racing For Kids With Cancer”. Every fan who brings a new toy to be donated will receive a free hot dog or free soda courtesy of the Waynesfield Raceway Park concession stand, and they will also be entered into a raffle for several different gift baskets of items donated from local businesses. All toys will be donated to Nationwide Childrens Hospital in Columbus Ohio to be given to children stricken with cancer when they have a procedure done at the medical facility. Gift baskets will be comprised of items donated form the following businesses: Texas Roadhouse; Westgate Lanes; Applebees; McDonalds; Cut and Color Crew; Metokote; Chuck-E-Cheese; Fat Jacks Pizza; Player's Sports and Spirits; Coaches Bar and Grill; Tim's Dirt Track Simulators and Souvenirs; Wendy's; Mustang Pizzeria; Snack Shack; Attitudes Hair Salon; Padrone's Pizza in Wapak; and Peterbilt of Northwest Ohio in Findlay, Ohio. The first 100 kids through the front gate will receive goody bags!

In addition to those giveaways, there is also a raffle for a brand new BELL Racing Helmet signed by several open wheel superstars including the winner of the 1st Annual Jack Hewitt Classic, “The Flyin Buckeye” Matt Westfall, Jon Stanbrough, Levi Jones, and several others. Tickets for the helmet will be available at the track, and are $5 each or 5 for $20.

“Racing For Kids With Cancer” is an event very near to the hearts of several of the racers and teams at Waynesfield Raceway Park, but none more than the family, team, and friends of Tim Dick, driver of the #18b Lee's Hydraulics Non Wing Sprint at Waynesfield. Tim's daughter Ashley was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2008 at the age of 5. Ashley and her family created Ashley's Angels, a group dedicated to not only Ashley and seeing her through her tough ordeal, but also seeing that the other children at Nationwide Childrens Hospital are given reasons to smile despite facing difficult times in their own battles. With the help of fellow racers Matt and Gabe Twining and family, and the support of all of our racing family at Waynesfield Raceway Park, the 1st Annual “Racing For Kids With Cancer” Toy Drive was a rousing success, and we are looking forward to making this year's event even better.

So come out and donate a toy and enjoy a great night of racing with us on Saturday September 4th as we go “Racing For Kids With Cancer” at Waynesfield Raceway Park.
JGRacing

Running Up Front Rids Darren Long of a Cold.
Some days you just don’t want to get up and go. And then there are some days you went and that was what the body needed. After a night of “Armor Alling” the inside of car Darren questioned whether or not he could race this past weekend. They say milk does a body good. At JGRacing a Hoosier feasting on high RPM’s and a healthy dose of dirt did Darren’s body just fine.
For the second heat race Friday night at Tri-City Speedway the blue and black 3g started on the outside pole and Darren knew a win was needed to start anywhere near the front in the feature. After taking the lead right at the start the fresh Gaerte/Engler combo was simply too tough to beat and a heat race victory was in the teams hands.
For the feature the initial starting spot for the JGRacing entry was 7th, but with two failed attempts and one big pile up the 3g found a spot outside front row very comforting. Powering out to a huge advantage over third and within a few laps catching Brian Brown, Darren began to hear cars behind him around the middle of the race. Third on back happened to find the rubber that neither the 3g nor the 21 looked for. With two or three cars battling Darren for the runner up position contact was made giving him a cut tire and a 21st place finish at the conclusion.
Saturday evening at I-30 Speedway Darren once again found himself in the second heat starting on the front row. This time however a little more work was needed for the lead and then the win. After testing the wall, maybe some would call it smacking or even hitting it hard, Darren moved the JGRacing entry to the bottom, got his groove on, and sailed off to another heat race victory. The two heat race wins also matched the number of mud covers broken for the weekend.
With another start in the 7th spot for the feature and the track slicked off this Ohio driver knew positions would be hard to come by. After following the 10 for several laps a small bobble gave the 3g sixth and an open track to fifth. By the time Darren caught Tony Bruce he tried to pass but could not complete the transaction. Earning yet another career best ASCS National finish the JGRacing entry finished up in 6th.
This weeks Red Line Oil question is; how many career sprint car wins does Darren have? This week’s winner will receive a Hoosier Tire Hat. Please send answers to zeakemedia@gmail.com
Darren Long has t-shirts available in all sizes. Stop at the trailer and ask for one, prices are $15.

Big Dawg 100 early entry deadline this Saturday!

August 30, 2010
WAYNESFIELD, Ohio

Less than 3 weeks remain until the $1000 to win Bear Wieck Memorial on Friday September 17th, and the $5000 to win 10th Annual Big Dawg 100 on Saturday September 18th for the Post Agri-Service UMP Modifieds at Waynesfield Raceway Park. The 100 lap feature will pay $300 to start the A Main. The Fowler and Hadding 1000cc Mini Sprints, Miracle Motorsports Tuff Trucks and JR and Sons Service Center Compacts will be part of the program on Friday night. The Tuff Trucks and Compacts will also be in action on Saturday night.

The date that looms even closer is the early entry deadline for the Big Dawg. If your entry form and entry fee is postmarked no later than September 4th, the entry fee is only $30. That entry fee jumps to $50 if it's paid after September 4th. For an entry form and mailing address visit http://www.waynesfieldracewaypark.com

The scheduled format for the Big Dawg 100 is as follows:

6 Heats will be ran with the top 3 finishers out of each heat transferring directly to the 100 lap A Main
- Finishers 4-6 of each heat will transfer to the B Main
- Finishers 7-9 of each heat will transfer to the C Main
- Finishers 10-12 of each heat will transfer to the D Main, etc.

The top 2 out of each main will transfer the next corresponding race, i.e. Top 2 finishers out of the D Main transfer to the tail of the C Main, top 2 finishers out of the C Main to the tail of the B Main, etc. Anyone not making the transfer to the A Main will earn $75, as long as they compete in a feature event.

The 100 lap A Main will be broken into two 50 lap segments. Caution laps do not count. After the first 50 laps, caution will be displayed on the speedway and the cars will pull into the infield at designated pit points. When the last car has stopped, an air horn will sound, giving the teams 10 minutes to change anything in the car except for the driver. A warning horn will be blown with 5 minutes remaining, again with 3 minutes remaining, and once again with one minute remaining, to notify teams to start rolling. Any car not rolling on the racetrack at the final 10 minute horn will restart the 2nd 50 lap segment from the tail.

The Miracle Motorsports Tuff Trucks and JR and Sons Service Center Compacts will complete their racing action between each of the mains, giving teams time to prepare their cars.

Pictures are now posted on the TNS Photo website (tnsphoto.net). Thank you for everyone who has ordered pictures and buying them at the race track.

After a lot of thinking, research and discussion we are now going to offer the digital files for sale. They will be $10 for a low resolution 1 Megapixel image. We apologize for those who we've previously said no too, but that is one of the reasons we are now offering them for sale, I just got tired of saying no. I have all of the images still on the hard drive beginning with May 29th (when we started) so if you'd still like them, we have them.

Also, Victory Collages will be posted sometime tomorrow evening. Thanks again for all of our great customers.

Thanks,
Steve Leist
